The Anthem of The Lost

Something to think a about.

The Anthem of The Lost

And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry."' 20 But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' Luke 12:19-20

This so thoroughly describes the mindset of modern America. We are directed, persuaded, and encouraged to obtain an education. With this education, we can then acquire sufficient wealth to allow us to eat drink and be merry in our later years.

God says to all of this you Fool!!!!!!

He is not raging against proper planning for future events. He is saying without Him all of your future planning will lead to naught. He is saying there is so much more to our existence. Do you want to waste your life with the worthless goal of attainment, constant entertainment, and temporal pleasure?

We have an eternity to live. God is saying wake up, this is not all there is. There is an entire universe of adventure, knowledge, and pleasure on the other side of the door of this life.  You can attain wealth and all of your dreams, and still, you will die. All of your accomplishments will end up belonging to someone else. After eating drinking and being merry, you will still have to stand before God and give account.

Living life as if this is it, is foolishness. If you have been sucked into "this is it" worldview I pity you. I can't fathom a life where we are all there is. Where humanity is the pinnacle of existence. We are slowly self-destructing and maybe not so slowly. If I look at the world and see the only hope being the combined intelligence of man it makes me cringe. Humanity throughout its existence has repeated the same sin. We have never learned and worse than that we have not changed. We are still trying to become God. Some of us actually believe we are the solutions to the problems we don't understand.

Our lack of ability to see every repercussion of every solution has within it the seeds of the next problem. Because we can't know every effect of our actions, our action as well-intentioned as they may be will always lead to another problem.  Even those who appear to have it all, have problems. They have challenges and failures and regrets and pain. Appearances are but a facade covering the pain within.

Without God, the hopelessness of human supremacy will not bring peace, but ultimately it will bring despair. We were not designed to live independently from God. We were never intended to be the pinnacle of existence. We were not given the ability to resolve all of the world's problems.  We were created to be dependent and in a relationship with God. God the pinnacle of existence can resolve all of humanity's problems. We were designed and intended to be His.

Gray Hair

Something to think about.

Grey Hair

They shall still bear fruit in old age;
They shall be fresh and flourishing,
15 To declare that the Lord is upright;
He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him. Psalms 92:14-15

Have we the older generation abdicated our responsibility to succeeding generations? Have we allowed ourselves to be silenced by the supposed wisdom of youth? I understand technology is far outpacing our desire to learn new mechanics. We have no interest in learning about the latest new craze. We have no interest in the new methods of communication. We would prefer if life were as it was when we where children. We are astonished as is everyone else with the rapid pace of technical achievements. We are amazed at all of the discoveries that are being made in many fields. The world is moving at such a fast pace it is difficult to keep up.

There is an old saying; the more things change, the more they stay the same.  For all of the dazzling advance for all of the new modern ways. Humanity still remains the same. We have to eat, sleep, work, live and die. The rest of it, all of the excitement and accomplishments are still subservient to our basic needs. The need for purpose, meaning, and love are at the center of our existence. People are still asking why am I  here what is my purpose? Is this all there is?  These are not new questions. The answers have not changed throughout the history of man.  We are still asking.

The wisdom of our old age points to one thing a God who loves us. Who is just, righteous and everlasting. Any other answer leads to the emptiness of nothingness and the epitome of hopelessness. Without God there is no purpose there is no meaning there is no such thing as love. Without God we are but animals existing meaningless lives with the sole purpose of eating, sleeping, dying. Without God, you will not be even a grain of sand in the eons of time that the universe will exist. The memory of you will not exist. Your existence will never be recorded anywhere. It will be as if you never lived.

Technology will never be able to answer. Where did we come from? It will never provide you with purpose; it will never fulfill your soul, it will never love you. But God of creation will and does love you. He gives meaning to your life and defines a purpose for your immediate and eternal existence.

Our value and purpose as we get older may not be in technology and science it is in teaching and leading the next generation to the everlasting loving just God of Creation.

Remain

Something to think about.

Remain

I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. 24 Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you. 25 And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith. Philippians 1:23-25

Recently I heard an evangelist ask, "Why are you here?" She was speaking to believers, in a small setting, not a large crowd. The simplicity of the question and in the setting, it which in made.  Made it particularly piercing. If, as we proclaim we are saved by faith. If all of the people in the room were saved what was our purpose? If salvation is the only goal God has for our lives, why are we still here? Why are we not remove from this life and instantly transfigured into eternal life? It is not to attain the secular pleasures of the flesh. Paul states it very clearly, "having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better." Why would we want to remain on this earth once we have attained eternal life through Christ? Which will be so much better than this painful temporal existence? The answer is in his next statement, "Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you." We remain for the very same reason as Paul. Because it is better for the rest of the world that we stay. We are the hands', feet, mouth, and heart of Jesus. We exist to propagate the gospel of Christ to all around us. For those of us who believe in Christ as it says in John 3:16. Our purpose is not for our selves. It is for those who have not yet heard of Christ. For those who have not accepted our Lord. We remain to serve our risen Lord by serving those that have not been saved. Your purpose is simple, be the hands and feet of Jesus. That is why we remain. The only reason we remain.

I Am Sending You

Something to think about.

I Am Sending You

21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” John 20:21

Purpose,  it is something we yearn for until we find it. When we find it, we wonder why it was so hard to find? "I am sending you" spoken by the resurrected Christ. It brings with it an authority unequal in humanities experience. These four words resound through out history. These four words changed the history of man. They define the purpose for which we live. It is what we are to do. The risen Christ is sending not only His original disciples, but He is sending us as well.

The authority with which He sends us is not just the power of Jesus it comes from the Father through Him to us. He is not just sending us He is empowering us with the authority of God the Father. It is not just a command it is a responsibility. It is the purpose, the underlying cornerstone of motivation for our lives. It is what will push us forward to bring meaning to our lives.

Our lives were meant to be more than acquisition, personal accomplishments or the rise a to power. They are meant for so much more. Our lives were made to share in the glory of God the creator of the universe and to live a life of complete victory. We were always intended to be children of the one and only true King. Less anyone be confused if you are living the life God has in store for you. There is nowhere you can be where the glory of God will not be. Whatever God touches is glorified, because he is glorious.

"I am sending you" let those words embed themselves in your heart, mind, and soul. Accept the purpose and meaning for your life. Receive the Glory that is inseparable from the command. Do what our Lord has commanded with the gifts He has given you and live the life He has promised you. If you go, the Glory of God will be with you.

Endless Possibilities

Something to think about.

Endless Possibilities

12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. 1 Corinthians 2 12-13

There is a space, a divide between us who believe in Christ and those who don't. We who do, can hear and understand what God has said and is saying. those that don't, though hearing can not comprehend what the Lord has said and is saying.  The bridge that reaches across that divide is the Spirit of God He is the one that opens our minds to understand the call, will, purpose, glory, love, and sovereignty of God.  Without the Spirit of God, the world is left lost abandon and confused because it can never understand the way the world works. They're missing the most vital part, the Spirit of God which makes the world make sense. Without it we are, but a mass of humanity headed for our inevitable self-destruction. The Spirit of God opens our minds to the reality of a future with a God of boundless, endless beautiful possibilities.

Light of Life

Something to think about

Light of Life

12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

If you compare this verse with the reality of today, you can easily understand the darkness with which the world lives.  The world lives with false hope, hope based on the intellect and ambitions of man.  Not being able to see the light that is Jesus the world stumbles about thinking that their darkness is light.  For those of us that have the light of life which is Jesus, we have hope that will not fade that will not fail that is a lighted living path to follow. We are grateful to God for the light of life He has provided. We, indeed live in the light of Christ.

Abide

Something to think about

Abide

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5

The analogy of the vine illustrates our total dependence on Jesus. We need to be permanently connected to Christ.  Notice we are not the fruit we are the branches. And the fruit we bear will be grafted into the vine which is Jesus, not us. If we separate from Jesus, we become dried out dead branches which cannot bear any fruit. We become useless.

Proof

Something to think about.

Proof

“And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”John 20:30-31 NKJV

The purpose of the gospels is to provide proof of the deity of Christ. The gospels serve no other purpose. Yes, you can glean and learn much about living, but at its core, the gospels are for our salvation. Christianity is Christ, not what we may want to turn it into. Do you believe the gospels? Do you believe in the claims of Christ? Do you believe in the resurrection? Your life will answer these questions much louder than your mouth.

Better to Obey Than Repent

Something to think about.

Better to Obey Than Repent

22 And Samuel said,

“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,

as in obeying the voice of the Lord?

Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,

and to listen than the fat of rams.

1 Samuel 15:22 (ESV)

Obedience, a word that might as well be the four letter word. Yet it is the word that best describes God's desire for those who claim to be His. It is not because He is master and we are servants, it is because in obedience we find the greatest blessings. If we obeyed God, a sacrifice would not be required. In obedience is where we find peace, joy, purpose, love, happiness, fulfillment, and rest. In short, all the beautiful things of life are abundantly available to us if we would obey.

For This Very Purpose

Something to think about.

For This Very Purpose

“For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.””
Romans 9:17 NKJV

You may think I will have nothing to do with God, you may even believe God does not exist. The truth is you have no say in the matter. God is not affected by your erroneous beliefs. God is going to use you to carry out His purposes with your permission or not. In every situation exist the opportunity to glorify God. In the end, he will be Glorified, and you will be an instrument He uses to bring Him glory. This prophecy will be fulfilled, 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:10-11 (KJV)

Profit

Something to think about.

Profit

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? Matthew 16:26

The amassing of great things power, influence, prestige, accomplishments, and wealth were very much sought after in Jesus's day as they are today. And the question He asked is just as relevant today as it was yesterday.  "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?" But the opposite can be asked as well. If you're living a life of extreme poverty what will that profit you? It really isn't a question of extremes or position. When you stand before God your wealth or poverty will not matter. You won't be judged on either, you will be judged on whether you choose to obey God or not. Wealth and poverty will pass away but your choice will be eternal.

Glorify Thy Name

Something to think about.

Glorify Thy Name

27“Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify Your name.”Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

People all over the world ask this question, why am I here, what is my Purpose? If we ask what was the purpose of Jesus's life what would be the answer? You might answer, His purpose was to save Humanity. To restore us, to heal us, to bring us victory in life. To save us from eternal damnation. I submit to you, these things, He did were not His purpose they were but the tools to glorify God. All of these things were done for us, humanity. None of what Christ did for us benefited God.  The life, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ were for one purpose, and it was not for the salvation of man it was for showing the glory, majesty, and preeminence of God.  The entirety of the Bible leads to this, acknowledging, recognizing, and glorifying God.  The Bible is and always has been and always will be about God.  He demands to be acknowledged, praised, worship and glorified by man. We exist for His glory that is why we are here. The singular purpose of man is to glorify God.

Effervescence

Something to think about.

Effervescence

“If I say, "I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name," there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.”
Jeremiah 20:9 ESV

Jeremiah is describing the Holy Spirit in you.  The spirit of God in you, you can not nor do you desire to contain.  The Holy Spirit in you rises with a voice that will not be silenced. This voice in you changes everything; this is the spirit that is born in you when Jesus said you must be born again.   Allow the Spirit of God to rise in you and direct you and empower you to accomplish the purpose He has created you for.

After All Is Said and Done

Something to think about.

After All Is Said and Done

13 The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13 (ESV)

After everything's said and done, when we come to the end of our lives, when we bring to accountant all we have done, the only aspect that will matter is our relationship with God. Will you come to the end of your life and find you neglected the most important thing. The goal, the purpose of your life, the reason you exist is to know God.

Purpose

Something to think about.

Purpose

“Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.” And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him. Luke 8:39 (ESV)

We Christians spend a lot of time search, asking and praying what is my purpose? If we would just go home and share the gospel of Christ with our neighbors, we would change the world.

The Desire of God

Something to think about.

The Desire of God

This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:3

It is not a deeply hidden secret you must search for all of your life to come to know. It is not reserved for the special. God”s desire is that you would be saved and know the truth.

Material Possessions

Something to think about.

Material Possessions

7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.
8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ
9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. Philippians 3:7-9 NIV

Knowing Christ is worth more than any possession.  By knowing Christ attaining righteousness by faith which is the ultimate blessing.

Something to think about.

The Purpose of Christ

“When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”” Mark 2:17 NKJV

He came, He died, made payment for us, was resurrected and sits at the right hand of God for the sinner, you and me.
