Vanities.

Something to think about.

Vanities.

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. Ecclesiastes 1:2

All of our efforts everything we strive for is a pointless, meaningless exercise without Christ. All of our altruistic pursuits will end up in the empty hole of nothingness.

If this life is all there is, then legacy is meaningless, and accomplishments are temporal at best. If the momentary is all there is,  life is pointless without purpose. Without something more than our current existence life is no more than vanity. If vanity is all there is, then all we strive for is in vain. Life is then a pointless cycle of self-gratification, disappointment, self-gratification, disappointment, again and again, and again.

God is the only thing that breaks the cycle of hopelessness and pointlessness. God is the only thing that gives life meaning. God is the answer to vanity.

Anxious Toil

Something to think about.

 Anxious Toil

1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
Psalms 127 1:2

 "Anxious toil" a phrase that sums up some of the expended efforts of my life. If God is not in your efforts what does it matter if you accomplish the task or goal? Whatever your endeavor, if God is not central in its inception and completion it will be for naught.  The only accomplishments that will matter and be of present and eternal significance will be those that were fostered, aided and guided by God.
