A Stumbling Block

Something to think about.

A Stumbling Block

25 But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:25-28 (ESV)

What do we do with these verses? They directly contradict everything  our culture and education espouse. In essence, it is saying deny yourself, do not seek power, control, authority, do not seek those things that your culture esteems as being of great value. It says sacrifice yourself as Christ sacrificed himself for humanity. Remember the sacrifice; Christ gave up omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence, immortality, and so much more, to come and be a servant to man. He is telling us to follow Him, and become as He became a servant to your fellow man. This call, this command is a daily stumbling block we must continually overcome.
